Understand Your Options Before Planning Your Move to Canada
Canada continues to include Healthcare and Social Services occupations within Express Entry category-based selection. At the seminar, Simon will explain what these rules mean for nursing professionals currently practising in Kerala.
Express Entry & Healthcare Category
How category-based selection works and how overseas nursing experience may be considered.
Provincial Immigration Pathways
How provincial nomination, employment and provincial support may create additional immigration options.
Nursing Occupations & Eligibility
Which nursing occupations may qualify and how your work experience and duties may affect eligibility.
Credential Assessment & Professional Licensing
Why qualifying for immigration and obtaining authorization to practise nursing are two different processes.
Planning Your Canada Pathway
How your education, nursing experience, language ability, occupation, licensing readiness and province of destination can affect your options.
Under current IRCC requirements for the Healthcare and Social Services category, an eligible candidate must have accumulated qualifying work experience in an eligible nursing occupation.
AT LEAST
12 months
12 months
of qualifying work experience within the past 3 years
The experience may be:
Full-time or equivalent part-time experience
Gained in Canada or abroad
In one eligible healthcare occupation
The experience does not need to be continuous
You must also meet the minimum criteria for one of the immigration programs managed through Express Entry and the requirements of the applicable invitation round.
What Happens While You Work Toward Your Nursing Licence in Canada?
What Happens While You Work Toward Your Nursing Licence in Canada?
For nursing professionals, Canadian immigration approval does not automatically mean immediate authorization to practise under a regulated nursing title.
HEALTHCARE CAREER OPTIONS
WORKING WHILE TRANSITIONING
WORKING WHILE TRANSITIONING
Some nursing professionals may consider healthcare-support, patient-care, home-support or clinic-based roles while working toward professional registration, depending on their qualifications and applicable requirements.
WORK TOWARD NURSING REGISTRATION
At the same time, you may need to complete credential, language, competency, examination or other requirements applicable to your intended nursing designation and province
Healthcare-related interim roles may be possible
Requirements vary by province and employer
Some roles may require additional certification or training
Nursing registration remains a separate professional process
Eligibility for any particular healthcare role is not automatic. Job requirements, certification, scope of practice and regulatory requirements vary by province and employer.
