Express entry

Express Entry, is the new electronic selection process, designed to select skilled workers for permanent residence to Canada. It’s a system that has made the Canadian immigration simpler & quicker for the selected applicants.

Express Entry is not an immigration program by itself. It is rather a system used by Immigration, Refugees and Citizenship Canada (IRCC) to manage applications for permanent residence under these federal economic immigration programs:

The Express Entry Process

Applicants eligible under any one of the federal economic immigration program may enter the Express Entry pool.

Your first step should be to determine your eligibility to one of these programs.

You may complete the assessment form to determine whether or not you are eligible to enter the Express Entry pool. Our team of professionals will review the information you have provided on the form and will let you know whether or not you may be eligible for the program.

If you are eligible, you will be provided the next steps into the process.

If you are not currently eligible, you will be advised on how you may improve your score in areas such as your skills, work experience, language ability, and education credentials. Or you will be advised on the other immigration programs you might be eligible to apply under. Express Entry is not the only process you may apply for a Canadian permanent residence.

Submit an Express Entry profile

An applicant who is eligible under any one of the federal economic immigration programs, may make an expression of interest to Immigrate to Canada by creating an online profile. In creating an online profile, they are required to provide information about their skills, work experience, language ability, education, and other information.

An applicant who meets the criteria of any one of the federal economic immigration programs is placed in the Express Entry Pool and are ranked, on the basis of the Comprehensive Ranking System formula (CRS). On submission of an express entry profile, the applicant MUST register with Canada's Job Bank, if they don’t already have a Valid Job Offer.

It is important that the information provided in creating your profile is accurate. Providing false information could disqualify you from the pool for up to five years.

Improve your ranking in the Express Entry Pool

Applicants in Express Entry pool are ranked on the basis of points awarded by the Comprehensive Ranking System, under the following factors:
  • human capital factors;
  • accompanying spouse or common-law partner factors, if applicable;
  • skill transferability factors; and
  • a provincial nomination or a Valid Job Offer (LMIA supported).

An applicant is awarded a points from a total of 1,200 under the Comprehensive Ranking System formula.

Applicant are selected from the Express Entry pool based on their ranking in the pool. Thus it is in the best interest of the applicant to improve his / her score in order to maximize the possibility of receiving an Invitation to Apply (ITA) for permanent residence.

Invitation to Apply & Submitting a Permanent Resident Application

The Federal / Provincial Governments select immigrants from the pool on the basis on their ranking.

Invitation to Apply (ITA) for permanent residence is given to the highest-ranked candidates in the Express Entry Pool, and those with valid job offers or provincial nominations. Once an applicant receives an ITA, they have only 60 days to submit an application for permanent residence and all the supporting documents. Citizenship & Immigration Canada processes the applications within four to six months from the date of submission.

An applicant who may not be able to submit all the supporting documents within the 60-day period may decline the Invitation and re-enter the pool. Once an application is processed the applicant and their family members will be issued Confirmation of Permanent Residence (COPR). The applicant and their dependents (spouse and children) may then land in Canada as permanent residents.

Applicant in the Express Entry pool who do not receive an Invitation to Apply for permanent residence in Canada after 12 months may resubmit their profile and re-enter the pool if they still meet the criteria of at least one of the economic immigration programs.
